This is a safari for adventure enthusiasts within the “Pearl of Africa”. You will visit the Eastern part of the country and hike the Mount Elgon which is protected as a National Park at an area of 1100km2 boarding the western side of Kenya. It has varied beauty to Marvel about including the peaks, band of vegetation zones, wildlife with over 300bird species like the endangered Lammergeyer and variety of mammals plus calderas among other volcanic features. About 6-8 hours of hiking a day and overnight camping on this tour, and potters are available at a small cost to help you carry your luggage. You also hike Sipi Falls as well as having a boat cruise to the source of the River Nile in Jinja.
Day 1: Travel from Kampala to Mount Elgon
Meet with your guide after breakfast at your overnight accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe, and later transfer eastwards to Mount Elgon via Jinja and Mbale. You will have a lunch break in Mbale town. Later continue to the hotel where you will have dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: Full Board, Overnight: At selected hotel.
Day 2: Hiking the Sasa trail
Start with breakfast, and transfer with your guide to the park station where you meet with the ranger guide who will take you through the hiking expedition. You receive briefing from the ranger and then start-off hiking via the Sasa trail, which is the most direct route to the peaks. You will enjoy a beautiful hike through the park’s vast area of bamboo. Day 3: Hiking the Mude cave camp.
After breakfast, prepare and we continue with our hiking expedition. Proceed with your ranger guide and potter ahead to the caldera, trails reward you with spectacular view and blend of nature. Utilize the best of your time, trace the highest peaks on Uganda and Kenya side, and visit the hot springs. You will break-off for a picnic lunch during the hike and later continue. In the evening, you retire for dinner and overnight camping at the campsite.
Day 4: Trekking to hunters cave.
Proceed with trekking after breakfast, with the ranger guide and the potter for a steep-long hike to the cave just below the caldera. These caves riddle the slopes of the mountain and were formed as a result of deposits left by lava. The trek will let you enjoy the beautiful blend of nature with magnificent landscapes. Picnic lunch, Dinner and overnight camping.
Day 5: Hike the Piswa trail -Kapkwata trail head
After breakfast, today enjoy being part of lucky hikers in the park as you spot wildlife on this route available are Primates, birds and vegetation of rare tree species. You will later descend and continue to the ranger station. Proceed to the lodge for lunch and evening relaxation. Dinner here and overnight Meal Plan: Full Board, Overnight: At selected hotel.
Day 6: Hike to Sipi Falls and transfer to Jinja for a source of the Nile cruise.
Start with an early breakfast at the overnight accommodation, later go for an early hike to Sipi Falls to catch the morning sun rise over the plains Kapchorwa. Trails all the way to the summit reward you with beautiful view of the communities and coffee farmlands. Later, leave for Jinja with a target of arriving in the early afternoon hours for lunch. In the evening, you will go for a boat cruise along the Nile to discover where it starts (source) its journey to the Mediterranean. Meal Plan: Full Board, Overnight: At selected hotel
Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala
Have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, later checkout and transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe where you will be dropped off at either the hotel or at the airport for your flight back home.
