You will track some of the world’s most interesting apes and primates on this 4 days safari. You will visit the southwestern part of the country to Nyungwe Forest National Park, a pristine piece of mountain rainforest with tremendous number of primates (over 13) like the L’Hoest Monkeys, Mona and Blue monkeys, Owl-faced Monkeys and many others, you will walk high above the canopies 60 meters on a Canopy walk. Lake Kivu in the western part of the country offers opportune moments to enjoy the gleaming waters of the Great Lakes region.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Start with an early breakfast at the hotel, and go for short city tour to the Kigali Genocide memorial site where you will get to know about Rwanda’s dark past, later transfer southwest of the country in the direction of the park near Cyangugu town. Lunch will be en-route and on arrival you will check-in to you booked accommodation where dinner and overnight will be. Meal Plan: Half Board, Overnight: Nyungwe Forest lodge (Luxury)/ Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Midrange)/ Gisakura Guest House (Basic).

Day 2: Tracking Chimpanzees and Isumo Falls

Have an early breakfast and transfer as early as 4:30 am to one of the reception areas that is; Uwinka, Kitabi or Gisakura. By 5:00 am you proceed to the starting point from where you start trekking into the forest. This may be a full day activity since Chimpanzees are usually on a move. Once you meet them you will be allowed an hour to watch them go about their daily life. Apart from tracking the Chimps, the forest experience; walking beneath the dense canopies of the African jungle is an exquisite moment. After lunch, later in the afternoon, depending on time and how you would be feeling, you will trek the 2.3km Isumo Falls trail that starts from Nyungwe Forest lodge. On this trail, you will see the falls, green tea fields, primates and lots of bird species. Meal Plan: Full Board, Overnight: Nyungwe Forest lodge (Luxury)/ Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Midrange)/ Gisakura Guest House (Basic).

Day 3: Canopy Walk and transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast, transfer with the guide to Uwinka reception area where you will start off to follow the canopy walkway. This activity presents you opportune moments to watch the wildlife in the canopies such as primates as you hung high a dense jungle. You will set your eyes on a rolling mountain forest. The activity lasts about two hours and later leave to Kibuye at Lake Kivu. Meal Plan: Full Board, Overnight: Lake Kivu Serena Hotel (luxury)/ Waterfront Resort Lake Kivu (Midrange)/ Paradise Malahide (Basic).

Day 04: Boat trip on Lake Kivu and transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, you will go for a boat cruise on the waters of Lake Kivu, the ride will give you a great feeling on the majestic waters of one of Africa’s Great Lakes, and you will explore some Islands like Napoleon and see local fishers. Later return to the lodge for lunch, check out and return to Kigali at the airport for your flight or be dropped-off at the hotel.
